Description

INTENDED USE – PROTECTION AND DECORATION OF BUILDINGS Thermoguard Fire Varnish is a clear lacquer for the decorative Fire Protection of timber and timber derivative substrates. The special formula provides a tough, durable finish to internal and external panelling, cladding and trim. The clear finish enhances the natural beauty of the substrate while fire protecting new and previously varnished surfaces. The protective Fire Varnish Overcoat provides protection against UV and wear, while offering a choice of sheen levels.

INTUMESCENT FIRE PROTECTION When exposed to a fire Thermoguard Fire Varnish expands to create a fire protective barrier, insulating the timber surfaces from heat and oxygen. EU test confirms low smoke emission. FINISH Thermoguard Fire Varnish has compatible Overcoats available in Gloss, Matt & Satin.

TO SPECIFY SIMPLY STATE "Prepare and apply 1 coat Thermoguard Fire Varnish @ 6 .5 sq m per litre to achieve Class 0 */ EN Class B; Then 1 coat Thermoguard Fire Varnish Overcoat @ 12 sq m per litre." ** * Class 0 includes Class 1. **2 coats FV Overcoat for potentially wet or external areas or fruitwoods.

PREVIOUSLY CLEAR VARNISHED SURFACES Thermoguard Fire Varnish has good adhesion and can be applied on surfaces previously coated with a standard clear varnish in good condition. For existing stained varnishes, stain coatings, other coatings or if in doubt, contact Technical Dept.

PREPARATION Seal or counter-sink and fill bare ferrous metal fittings with a suitable wood filler. Ensure surfaces are dry, clean and free of all contamination. Previously varnished, sealed or non-porous wood should be abraded thoroughly with medium grade silicone carbide abrasive when dry to provide a good key.

APPLICATION CONDITIONS During application & drying: Ensure surfaces are thoroughly dry – max 18% moisture content. Maximum relative humidity RH 75%. Ensure adequate ventilation during application and drying. Minimum air temperature 8°C. Minimum surface temperature 3°C above dewpoint – avoid condensation.

APPLICATI ON & COVERAGE – Class 1, Class O , EN Class B Apply 1 coat Thermoguard Fire Varnish @ 6.5 sq m per litre (150 microns); Then apply 1 coat Thermoguard Fire Varnish Overcoat (matt , satin or gloss). * * Apply 2 coats Fire Varnish Overcoat for hard wear, damp or external areas or fruitwoods ** Refer to Application Notes supplied with delivery. ** Fruitwoods- please refer to fruitwood information sheet on website.

ENVIRONMENTA L HEALTH & SAFETY Thermoguard Fire Varnish basecoat is water-based. Fire Varnish Overcoat is VOC compliant as part of this specialist Fire Protective System.

COMPOSITION of FIRE VARNISH Clear intumescent compounds & clear chemically cured resin binders.

STAINS or DYES and PRESERVATIVE TREATMENTS Use penetrating wood dyes compatible with water-based coatings.*** With stain coatings, stained varnish, opaque or unknown existing coatings contact Technical Dept. If preservatives are required, we recommend rapid drying clear non water-repellent grades.*** For tanalised or other preservative treatments, contact Technical Dept. *** Allow adequate time for stain or preservative fluids to escape. If in any doubt, Technical Dept should be consulted prior to application.
